This week in B1G Football
PORTLAND, Ore. — Heading into Week 9, it’s still anybody’s race. Same three-way tie for first place in the Big Ten standings: Indiana, Oregon, and Penn State remain unbeaten — trailed by three one-loss teams (down from six coming into Week 8).
That's still a third of the conference in a pair of ties for the two spots in the B1G title game.
The Big Ten has AP No. 1 in Oregon — the first week this season without an SEC team in the top spot. The Big Ten is down to five ranked teams after at least six B1G teams had factored in the AP poll from preseason through Week 8.
The second half of October will spread the Big Ten standings out quite a bit more, starting with these B1G Games of the Week:
Washington stands in the path of No. 13 Indiana’s first 8-0 start since 1967
No. 3 Penn State visiting Wisconsin before facing Ohio State in Week 10
Chasing history
Washington at No. 13 Indiana: Noon ET/11am CT/9am PT | BTN
Indiana has a chance to posterize 4-3 Washington if the Hoosiers can improve to their first 8-0 start since 1967 — For what it's worth, the midweek Vegas line has Indiana by a touchdown.
Living in a world where both teams from the 2023 natty are unranked half a season later and Washington Football potentially gets dunked on by Indiana makes this one a super fun game to watch.
Trap game?
No. 3 Penn St at Wisconsin: 730pm ET/630pm CT/430pm PT | NBC
With Penn State's opportunity to look past Wisconsin to its Week 10 showdown with Ohio State, the lazy narrative in Big Ten country is pumping this trip to Wisconsin as a trap game.
Midweek Vegas line only favored Penn State by a touchdown, so a more intricate pregame take is that PSU-Wisconsin could be a great scout on just how solid Penn State is coming through the midseason mark.
